I train people to work in print journalism, and sometimes I have misgivings about that--given the direction (down) that newspaper circulation is going.
Print isn't dead (yet), but the signs are ominous: online is where it's at when people look for sources of news.
But maybe I'm an old-fashioned reader who likes to hold newsprint in his hands and get ink stains all over me.
What can we do to save newspapers?
Anything?

I used to like holding the newspaper in my hands, too, but never liked getting the ink stains--this actually happened when I lived in a little town in NC.
A year ago I had subscriptions to the New York Times and two other major dailies. But I did not like the way they piled up in my living room. I hated putting the old papers into trash bags and hauling them downstairs to the dumpster. What a chore! Well, I solved that problem; now I just read the news online.
There's something so fulfilling about holding a newspaper in my hands opposed to reading it all online.
Never thought about the bothersome aspects (waste disposal) of newspapers, but good point.
Yes, they can pile up.
Yes, they can make your hands dirty.
Yes, they are sometimes cumbersome to read (i.e. finding the last part of a story that starts on page 1 and then jumps/continues to page 19).
But I still love them. Guess they're in my blood.
